Major Mainland projects |
Hang Seng Bank Scholarship Schemes
Hang Seng Bank established the Mainland Scholarship Scheme in 1999. The Scheme grants scholarships to outstanding undergraduate and graduate students at more than 10 Mainland universities.
In addition, Hang Seng awards scholarships to young financial professionals on the Mainland who excel in the Financial English Certificate Examination (Banking Category, Intermediate Stage). Jointly organised by The Hong Kong Institute of Bankers and the Association of Chinese Financial Staff Education, this examination aims to encourage Mainland financial professionals to engage in continuing professional development.
Voluntary service
Hang Seng China extends its dedication and professionalism in providing financial services to its work in the community. Hang Seng China's team of volunteers is engaged in a variety of social welfare projects on the Mainland.
Hang Seng China's volunteer programmes centre around education. The Bank organises visits and outings for disadvantaged children, including children from migrant worker families, orphans, and physically or mentally disabled young people. Heng Seng China volunteers have taken groups of children to visit the 2010 Shanghai World Expo, museums, zoos and aquariums, played basketball in schools, and shared laughter and joy over all kinds of interactive programmes. The Bank also organises large-scale CSR events like music and reading programms in which Hang Seng China volunteers also play an important role in promoting the quality education for migrant children and rural children.
Charitable donations
Hang Seng China and its staff have provided support through financial donations to regions hit by natural disasters.
The Hang Seng China volunteer team has also donated various school facilities and equipment to schools to improve and promote education. In 2009, the first Hang Seng China Hope Library was set up in a primary school in Ya'an, Sichuan province. Hang Seng China and its volunteers jointly donated books and provided facilities and equipment for the library.
Environmental protection/low-carbon initiatives
Hang Seng Bank engages in activities that have a positive effect on the environment. The Hang Seng Pearl River Delta Environmental Awards, launched in 2007, aims to encourage manufacturing companies in the Pearl River Delta region to continually enhance their environmental performance by recognising and rewarding their achievements.
Hang Seng Bank has also financed the construction of more than 1,000 biogas toilets in Yunnan province. This project has helped to reduce carbon dioxide emissions, creates a renewable energy source, and improves hygiene conditions for local villagers.
Hang Seng China also takes part in environmental protection programmes, including participating in the Earth Hour campaign organised by WWF, through which the Bank demonstrated its concern for global environmental changes as well as its commitment to low-carbon initiatives and corporate responsibility.
